We want anyone who joins our discussions—our writers and contributors, and those who comment—to know that this is a safe environment, and a place where people with a connection to or love for our beautiful town can discuss and debate topics raised in our stories and commentary.

We ask that anyone choosing to join the discussion show courtesy, kindness and respect for all others who comment here, and agree to follow these guidelines:

Include your first and last name, as well as a valid email address—your email address will not be published or shared, but we will use it to connect with you regarding your comment if needed. Comments with just a first or last name, or with a pseudonym, will not be published.

Address the content, not the person—you may question or debate the content of the post or comments, but do not attack the author or commenter. This is a friendly community; play nice. Disagreement is okay. Disrespect is not.

Keep it clean—any comment that includes offensive or inappropriate language, and/or is considered rude by our editorial staff will not be posted.

Stick to the topic—comments which are off-topic, irrelevant or unintelligible will not be posted. The same goes for those that either don’t add value to the conversation or run on too long. We love novels, but we don’t want to read one here.

Make the comment your own—we want to hear your opinion, not someone else’s. (Besides, posting content you’ve copied from elsewhere without attribution infringes on someone’s intellectual property.) Share your ideas and experiences. Ask questions. Propose solutions. If you do feel that sharing someone else’s ideas would add to the conversation, be sure to cite the source.

Don’t dominate the conversation—let others voice their opinion, too.

Don’t spread misinformation—if we can’t verify your claims via sources and experts we consider to be reputable, they won’t be published. Just because it’s your opinion doesn’t make it fact.

Don’t post ads or spam—marketing material or other promotion of a business or service won’t be posted. One of our wonderful sales reps would be happy to talk to you about advertising rates if you want your business to appear on Doppler.

Be a decent human—Don’t defame anyone, deceive others, or post offensive material. Comments which are obscene, threatening, abusive, hateful, inflammatory or promote sexually explicit material or violence will not be posted. Ditto for those that promote discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age. Just don’t—here or anywhere else for that matter. You’ll only get one shot at this. We won’t tolerate it and you will be blocked from commenting for good.

Hold harmless—All comments on the Doppler website are moderated. We reserve the right to not publish any comment that does not meet our standards and to block access to anyone who repeatedly ignores these guidelines. Comments are the responsibility of the commenter, not Doppler’s editorial staff. By submitting a comment, you agree that its content is your own, and you agree to hold Huntsville Doppler and all representatives of Huntsville Doppler harmless from any and all repercussions, damages, or liability.

Thank you for helping us to make this a safe space for everyone.
